Mud Spa Treatment at Phu Klon Country Club (Mae Hong Song)
In 1995, a healthy mud source was discovered at Pong Dued Mae Sa Nga or the present name Phu Klon by a group of French and Thai geological researchers who went sightseeing in Mae Hong Son, Thailand. A stream of hot mineral water was found rising in the middle of rice field flowing into a small creek. Many people recovered from illness and pain when soaked in the warm water in the creek. The area is now developed into a spa resort.

Muds used in spa therapies are found throughout the world. Each mud has a different content based on the geologic area from which it originated. It took 4 years to find out the useful minerals and natural substances of Phu Klon mud. The mineral contents of the mud are good for the skin and blood circulation and contains some of the same minerals that are found in the Dead Sea mud and volcano lava mud. Being rare minerals, they can only found only at a few places on earth.

It was my first experience to try a facial mud mask. The mud is mixed with yogurt and with a huge powder brush, it is lightly applied across my face and left it to dry for 20 minutes before removing it. You will feel your skin tightening during the drying process. FYI, it only costs 60 THB for a facial mud mask.

To get there, you can travel 6 kilometres from town on Route 1095 (Mae Hong Son-Pai), then turn left into Ban Kong Mai Sak Ban Huai Khan Road and continue for 4 kilometres.
